Blackbird Corner
A small gift store selling Australian handmade wares and Newcastle-themed souvenirs since 2006. Much of the stock is designed and made in NSW - with an online store established in 2018.
Blackbird Corner has been operating since 2006, making it one of Darby Street’s more established indie gift shops. Owners Nici, Sean, and their dog Pepper have built a shop around Australian-made goods - much of the stock is designed or produced in NSW.
The range spans screen-printed apparel, handmade greeting cards, short-run printed magazines, and fashion accessories, with a strong thread of Newcastle pride running through the selection. It’s a genuine source for locally made gifts rather than generic souvenirs.
An online store launched in 2018 extends the reach, but the physical shop - open Wednesday through Sunday - retains the character that makes independent retail worth supporting.
